- Nine years of baking, nine years of learning, of fun, hard work and joy. These nine years of blogging is nothing short of a magical period. Cheesy, but true!
The winner is Cookie. I have emailed you to complete the process. Congratulations! Thank you everyone for joining and thanks for your support!
Like I was raising my girls from infancy to toddlerhood, then to young humans, this blog has taken (and still is) a big chunk of time, attention, effort, and love. It is a daily part of life. Needless to say, unlike most regular jobs, a blog stays with you. From morning to night, weekends or not, dusk to dawn, and all moments in between ( like another child in my care, really!).
I started Woman Scribbles while I was on maternity leave, pregnant with my first child. It has always been my dream to have a job that is also my passion. And being 9 months pregnant, the desire to live life on my own terms was stronger than ever. Woman Scribbles was born out of my desire to work my dream job and to do it from home with my brand new baby. So I wrote the very first blog post. It was the year 2012. My heart was soaring with excitement.
After nearly four years, guess what? I went back to work, I was making $0 from the blog and I was pregnant with my second child. Needless to say, it turned out that blogging as a career is more involved than it seems.
But here is what made the difference
I never stopped hoping, and believing. Even if I eventually don’t succeed at it, or not make money from it, I never doubted for a moment that this blogging thing is for me. The writing, the baking, the food photography-they are hard work, yes, but a part of my heart jumps each time I step back and see my work. So I continued showing up each day for that sense of fulfillment.
Here is one magical thing
A kiss of heaven on earth it was, when superstar blogger, Lalaine from Kawaling Pinoy said hi to me on Facebook messenger on one of my typical days as an aspiring blogger. That is the start of what is now continued years of mentorship, support, and friendship. “Just keep at it. Believe me, one day it will happen” are her words. And those words are a big part of why I never stopped blogging.
Here is one thing that sustains me
My husband’s faith in what he did not know. When my maternity leave for my second child was about to end, I told him I was not going back to work so I can pursue this blogging career. Although clueless as to how blogging can be a source of income, he lovingly said yes. I was making (still) $0, except for some random $60 sponsored work.
My point is if my husband did not believe me from day one- I would have continued blogging still, but the faith he has in what I do makes a world of a difference. He brought me an Olympus camera, a big upgrade from my point and shoot.
The reason for it all: My kids.
(I have three now!) And being able to be at home with them while I do my dream job is a dream come true. This is what I always hoped everything will be. This is it. All other things are an added bonus.
And here is why I stay motivated
Online shopping. Just kidding. Or not really. Do you know that 6 years ago, I used to borrow changes from my daughter’s piggy bank just so I can buy a pack of frozen purple yam or butter to use for the blog? True story. Financial freedom is a huge blessing, and I am thankful everyday for blogging, for the Universe. It seems to me that this blogging career was handed to me like a gift (in the form of persons, opportunities, and inspirations).
And to YOU who give this work meaning
Because of you who come here for a recipe, I feel the value of the work I do. So, speaking of online shopping, here is a gift for you, my readers who give meaning to my work. Thank you for sharing the same love I have for baking, food, and life.

Wow. What a lovely post!
I don’t have a favorite recipe except for ALL
Of the bread posts. These have worked out great and I learned how to make filled buns.
I love the posts with ingredients I am not too familiar with— like purple yams. Those are a future, aspirational, project.
Keep up the amazing work.
