Pointers and Tips

  • I used medium ground beef because I like the extra flavor of the some fat from the beef. However, you can also use lean ground beef in this recipe.
  • Note that you do not have to have an Instant Pot to make this recipe. A regular pressure cooker is perfectly fine to use here.
  • If you would like to cook this in the stove top, I have outlined the process in the Notes section in the recipe card.

Brown the Beef in the instant Pot. Press Saute on your Instant Pot. Once Hot displays, add the ground beef. The beef will shortly release some fat so it will not stick to the pan. Toss the beef often until lightly browned. Add the minced garlic and cook until softened. Turn off the Instant Pot.

  • You can also use lean ground beef if you prefer. You may need to add a bit of oil to brown the beef.
  • You can use a regular Pressure cooker. Also, some procedure here may need to be adapted depending on the model of your Instant Pot. I am using the Instant Pot Duo.
  • No Instant pot/ pressure cooker? You can cook this on the stove too. Saute the garlic with a bit of oil, add the beef and brown. Add the sauce ingredients and allow the mixture to simmer until soft, stirring regularly to avoid sticking and /or over caramelization. Thicken with cornstarch slurry as described in the recipe.
